Hi Dave, this question comes up every once in a while, and there is a
pretty solid answer but it isn't provable;

D model year 1942
U utility hull (but see below)
K all wheel drive, or at least driven front axle
W twin rear axles on an inverted leaf spring.

Not very exciting is it? I suspect it would originally have been
DAKW, with the 'A' standing for Amphibian, till someone said "if we
made it 'U' for Utility it would sound like a duck. Some of the
variations on the abbreviation are very inventive. Gordon, Falkirk,
