I recently made an interesting book find in the children's section of the
local Border's book superstore. The name if of the book is "The Visual
Dictionary of Special Military Forces". The book is part of the "Eyewitness
Visual Dictionaries" series originally published in England . While aimed
at children, I found the info in the book far above anything I've seen in
the US market The time period covered goes from WWII to Desert Storm. All
of the equipment shown (inc. weapons, uniforms, commo gear, insignia, spy
camreas, etc) on the oversize 10x12" pages is in full color. Many pages
are devoted to WWII era OSS and "wartime secret agents". Almost all of the
items shown would be almost impossible to buy at any price, but the book
makes a great refference book. Parachutists equipment, mountain troops,
undersea forces are among the type of troops having their specialized
equipment displayed. Of special interest to those on the mil-veh list is a
pink British desert Land Rover and a special British MB/GPW paradropable
jeep with the original crashpans, parachute and twin Vicker's MG's shown.
The book has 64 pages, has a list price of $18.95 (Amazon.com may do
better) and is published in the US by DK Publishing, NYC
