[MV] Vehicle Color

I would like to ask, (probably already asked) if anyone really KNOWS the
color of
WWII vehicles, ie jeeps, trucks, etc. I painted my GPW 5 years ago with
34087 by RAPCO, because "everyone" said this is the color it's suppose to be.
While I am satisfied with the paint, and it looks like "everyone" elses
vehicles (at two MVPA shows), I am still uneasy about the color. I do not
have access to any color photos of WWII vintage that show jeeps, etc;
however, in the black and white photos we all have seen, the jeeps look (to
me at least) to be a couple of shades darker than the 34087 color. The color
swatch in Ray Crowder's book "All American Wonder - Vol II" does not look
like the 34087 (at least to me) but the full photos of restored jeeps do look
the same as mine (except their's are better).

I kept asking people I thought might know the answer, and was finally told by
a friend who I feel should know that the 34087 was wrong, it should be 319 by
RAPCO. Well
with this new found information in hand, I bought a gallon of 319 and
recently painted
some combat rims. While admitting to being slightly color blind, I can't
really tell
much if any difference between the 319 and the 34087; and they both still
"look" to
me to be too light.

Does anyone out there have an unrestored vehicle that has been stored so it's
not
faded out, and can tell me what the color should be? Are all the old photos
of dirty, worn out jeeps that have motor oil and four layers of mud on them?

I apologize for asking a question that probably has already been asked;
however it has been bugging me for years.

Thanks, Tom Campbell - Birmingham, Alabama USA
