[MV] GPW/MB water pump & NDT's

Hello again,

Thanks for replies to my last two questions.
I got my generator and regulator checked out and it was the ('modern') reg
which was the problem - apparently a light tap on the cover and it stopped
charging. It's been replaced and I'm rollin' again.

Here's two more questions:
(I'm looking forward to the time when someone posts a question I can answer...)

1- Since I bought it earlier this year, the water pump on my '43 jeep has
been oscillating slightly, with some accompanying knocking noises. I know I
can get a repair kit of gasket etc, but have been advised that dis- and
re-assembling requires special tools without which the unit can be damaged.
So I can get a pre-reconditioned pump for about $100 (inc p&p).

My question is: since I don't mind one more noise in my Jeep's symphony of
noises, is it OK on the rest of the engine to drive with the pump as is
until it finally gives up and _then_ spend the dollars, or would I be
risking damage to other parts if/when the pump 'goes'?
Anybody got any water pump horror stories?

2- The Jeep needs a new tyre. Currently it has four non-directional treads
(mud/snow) on combat rims, so it's the spare I need. I've been advised that
the NDT is not safe on tarmac, but I really wouldn't enjoy buying 5 new
tyres (the postage on that package into Ireland from anywhere would be
outrageous and I can't get them here).

My next question is: is the NDT advice true, taking into account that I try
not to push it over 35/40 mph?

Thanks in advance
The next two questions will follow soon... (What can I say, you guys are
just encouraging me!)

PS: Looking forward to viewing willys.com. If Ireland can help, let me know.
