I agree with the others about originality or semi-originality.

This is an extremely rare truck. I have one myself with a slightly later Chev
235 engine (much better)

The V8 conversion gives problems with the steering in that the frame is too
narrow in the front for the ex manifold. In addition, you have the pedal
mounting problem. Not to mention that the fan is way too low for the radiator.

Brake parts are available from Robert O Motor parts in W. Newbury MA
508/555-1212 (info) They are the civilian ones. (tell them it is a 46 1.5 ton)
The driver's side needs a different hose in that these civy cylinders do not
have an angled (up) inlet connection. In addition, you can use one of the
rebuilding places like White Post Restorations.

The ratio is 6.66 to 1 and the over/repowering will probably give you rear axle
problems that were common to the Chev's of that era. The mil axles are 10
spline and different from the 16 spline civy and 13 spline 2 speed rear axle
shafts. In addition, the xfer may not like the increase in power. In addition,
the U-joints and drive shafts are smaller on the Chev than on the CCKW. With a
torque converter, I think you are headed for problems.

The GMC engine is about 1.5 inches longer than the chev. I am not too sure how
this would mount in front. The back is fine. My experience in mounting a chev
in a CCKW pointed this up all too clearly as it came up short on the timing
cover mount.

My personal suggestion: Sell this truck to someone who needs/wants this in the
original auger form. It is too valuable for anything else. If you get part way
thru the conversion and give up, or keep breaking rear axles and give up, it
will probably end up junked. Your mileage may vary.
