I agree with MAJ Rice. The ROPS system was an ill concieved idea that
didn't work well in the field! I would have hated to be riding strapped
into an M-151 equipped with the ROPS system in an ambush. By the time
you got out of the damn thing it would be over and you would have been
dead.

It didn't work well with field gear and as such was very often ignored
in the field by the troops when no one was looking. As the Motor
Officer in an Infantry Battalion I can tell you I hated having to
install this MWO on the vehicles. While it might have been a good idea
in the rear area on main post, it was a lousy idea in the field.

As to the proper color for an M-151 you must really know what era you
intend to depict. In my career I have seen M-151's painted everything
imaginable depending upon the mission the vehicle was committed to,
everything from bright red (a base fire fighting unit) to dual text (a
unofficial camo scheme used by the 2nd ACR in Europe in the late 70's)
and many others in between. While the AR's specified the patterns and
so forth, it was often up to the whims of the local commander to make a
final decision and the avaliablity of paints and materials in the supply
system. I remember in Germany making body repairs with old savalaged
wall lockers and then painting the vehicles with the various camo colors
with a brush.

Good luck with your project!
