Paul & mil-list
I had the gears in the front and rear axle replaced, in the Kaiser with
4.10:1 gears. I got the gears from MARS, Military Aquisition
Restoration & Supply, 4712 W. Yellowwood Road, Nasville, IN 47448 the
cost was about
$350.00 and extra to set them up (locally). I am planning to pull the
Tornado engine when it will get a little
warmer in Denver, and to replace it with a diesel, I have quite a bit of
spares for that engine and the engine
in the truck has a computer to adjust the time in the distributor and a
magnetic pick up to fire the the multiple spark discharge ignition. If
you can wait, I make you a good deal on all the parts I
have for the Kaiser I will also get rid of the wheels & tires, total of
five, all are very good. (no rot of cracks). I am going to replace the
engine because I plan to drive the truck everyday, and I need more power
to get up in them Rocky Mountains, altitude is a killer for a an engine
that is too small for the gear ratio that I now have, I plan to install
also taller tires to clear the axle from rocks, the tires will have a
narrow
profile but will be tall, (100x20) the diesel has a narrow range of rpm
800-1800 for torque, unlike the gas engine which has a broad power range
1000-5500 rpm. The other effect of Diesel engine is good gas milage
18-22
mpg, the bad side is that it is difficult to start in the winter when it
is cold, or colder than 20 deg.
I relly like the Kaiser Jeep platform as a truck, most of the Kaisers
have very low milage on them, that you can find, because of the low
gears, most of the trucks are in good shape and are fairly inexpensive
to purchase. Now MARS offers also a Hercules engine for the Kaiser,
which is a turbo diesel 4 cyl. with the right gears for the axle's,
which they sell (5.87:1 ratio is too low for the diesel with stock
tires). In the past I had 4500 lbs. of brick in the back of the Kaiser
and the rear leaf springs where just getting flat, that truck
will pull a good load, not very fast 45mph with the load of bricks, and
it will climb 50 degree slope at a really slow pace, that it will scare
you !!

THIS WHAT I EXPENDED ON THE PARTS and what they are maybe worth ?(I had
3 Kaisers in the past I love them)
I have a new carb on the engine $160. new, new drive gear for
distributor installed on engine $90., original air cleaner, canister
with carb adapter, Distributor computers $250. Spare head $100.00, used
water pump spare
$45. oli pump spare $50. Harmonic balancer spare $35. Exhaust manifold
spare $75. box of military distributors disasemble many ? Another carb
rebuilt $75. not used. Wheels & tires x5 $500. Plus the engine running
$500.
Used axle 5.87:1 gears front and back total 19,000 miles in them, $200.
(short block Tornado will go for $800. from Sam Warner surplus new &
used long block with every thing $650.)

Look if you want this stuff I will make you a deal all for $600. I
belive that to ship all this to Chicago
will be about $200. Or if you got some time come down to Denver to pick
it up. let me now.
