[MV] Indian 741 "Speaking with Forked Tongue"?

I recently purchased a 1941 Indian 741 30.50.
All the literature I have show the fork suspension with one large single
spring in the center.

Mine however, has this same large single spring AND two smaller springs
on each
side.

The photos I have also shows the headlight bracket coming up below (in
the front fender area), but my bracket is a straight piece of metal going
across the main
forks toward the top.

And finally, the photos also show the steering damper adjustment smack
dab on the top of the handle bars and the handle bars mounting through an
enclosed housing
while my damper knob sets underneath the handle bars (and the handle bars
mount by passing through two square clamp type mounts)

I bought the bike knowing that the front fender is not origina ( it is
off a Mottoguzi
from that period).

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

On a similiar subject, when or what designates a military scout to be a
741 rather than a 640?

Thanks, dcron@juno.com
