Hi Todd, the 3/4 ton Carryall (WC-53) functionally replaced both the
1/2 ton Carryall and the 1/2 ton Radio Panel truck (WC42) As such it
needed to be equipped for radio. Apart from the radio filters, etc,
and a 12V system they also put a radio ariel bracket between the
drivers side centre and rear windows. This bracket was very similar
(the same ?) to the Command Car bracket but mounted vertically in stead
of at an angle as on the Command. Since it would be very vulnerable to
tree damage in that location they braced it with a big lump of angle
iron forward to just behind the drivers door pillar. Have a look at
the centre seat mountings on a WC-53 and you can see how it swings
round to longitudinal so the radio operator can face the side of the
vehicle.

A couple of variations -

Norwegian carryalls seem to have had another arial base just behind the
drivers door where the brace front bolts were, dont know if this was
ever used in U.S.

WC-53 special (four door) had the brace and ariel moved back, so it
wouldn't foul the drivers side rear door.
