Jim, you are right if it's started on the type of oil run the type,
and you know that aircraft manufacturers recomend the oil for max
performence &
life of the power plant..If I am starting a new overhauled ground
(truck,car)
eng. I will use mineral oil to run in the eng. till I feel that all
mechanical
components have set. I will run the engine for 500 miles and change the
oil,
then run mineral oil for another 1500 miles, and after that I will
switch to a
suspention oil detergent (ashless dispersant). There are some strong Pro
/Con's
to each type, cars and trucks have a different operating areas, exposure
to
very heavy stop and go RPM range combined with poor maintenance (not all
people)
but even I have sometimes neglected to change the oil in a car at a
specific
recomended time interval. Unlike Aircraft, those oil changes in aircraft
are
strongly recomended due to the consequences of engine quitting in
mid-flight.
I have always used mineral oil in the recomended Aircraft manufacturers
manuals, and when that changes, so will I ....So here you are...
