How can I see if the rings have to be replaced.
The engine is the Ford V8 85 HP mounted in canadian universal carriers
and Ford Canada trucks.
Thanks.<

I'd try soaking them in kerosene for a couple days. Then if that didn't
work, I'd try carb cleaner. Soak just the top of the piston, not the
entire wrist pin bearing and rod bearing. It that doesn't break them
free, I'd say you need to start looking for new pistons and rings.

I'd assume the rings are shot if they have been frozen in the pistons. T=
he
pistons might be totally servicable though. Personally anytime I pull ou=
t
pistons, they get new rings before they are reinstalled. Don't forget to=

hone the cylinders also and remove the ridge at the top of the cylinder. =

Skip one of these things and you may break rings or at the least they wil=
l
fail to fully seat.

Good Luck,

Dave
