Very true. I had this happen to me on a '64 Wagoneer. It was listed in
Hemmings Motors News for $180. The ad said "restore or parts". For this
price, I figured it was a total rusted hulk. A couple weeks went by and I
didn't have anything to do that weekend so I decided to call him up and get
directions to look at it in case the rusted hulk might have parts I might
need. When I got there, it turns out to be a 39,000 mile original with
original paint. (just some rust on the rocker panels). It also had a rare
independent front suspension on it. He had all the paperwork from when it
was new. (including bill of sale, warranty card, dates of when all the
maintenance was performed, plastic bag with all the little tags for the keys
etc.) Interior was immaculate and still smelled new. It started right up
when a new battery was installed. All this for $180. I asked the guy why
he put "restore or parts" in the ad and he said he went to the Jeep
dealership and they told him he couldn't get parts for it anymore. Since he
couldn't get parts from the Jeep dealer anymore, he figured it wasn't worth
anything...

Finding nuggets of gold is half the fun.
