I have a friend who is a really good scrounge at finding militaria
including vehicles. He's been on two trips hunting for MV's--the first
with me, the first without me.

The firsttrip resulted in the finding of my very restorable scripted
GPW#48315 for $450. I am still buying parts for it, but it should be
running by May, and in the body shop by summer. He found it on a farm
near Green City, Missouri.

Our next trip--which was Veteran's Day '97--we were looking for three
vehicles--an ambulance, tank chassis, and half track minus armor. The
ambulance turned out to be a willys panel van from the late 40's/50's.
We mever found the tank chassis--didn;t even find the right farm. As
for the half-track--we found the farm, but no one was there--and we
didn;t want to root around and get ourselves shot. On the way back to
my car I was looking at farms and that is when I found my Chevy 1 1/2
ton. It was just sitting in a field. Turns out it was built 10 Dec 40,
with a chassis #2615, and a Budd body numberof #12. It isn;t running
but is aneasy restoration--won;t take much to run, and not too much mor
e for a full restoration. The owner sold it to me for $1000--and when I
pickd it up--his son said he had been trying to get the truck off his
dad for several years--it was the only one they never got stuck--but he
refused to sell it. Him knowing it was going to a MVPA member for the
purpose of restoration was the linch pin in the sale.

Both of these vehicles were less than 45 minutes away from my house.
Currently I know where there is a military M-715 Gladiator truck, and a
WWII 2 1/2 ton (open door model) for sale--both within a 50 miles from
where I am--I don;t have prices on them--I just pass them everytime I go
to Quincy for drill. Both are still showing green-although the
Gladiator is showing green through the black and white paint. I can try
and put anyone interested in touch with the owners. I don;t have any id
ea about the cost--but they both appear to be gather dust and rust right
now.

It pays to hunt--I got two early WWII vehicles, both very restorable for
$1450--and didn;thave to travel at all for them. If anyone is
interested in the otehr two vehicles I saw--let me know and I'll assist
in locating the owners for you.
