I have found what appears to be the original unit markings under several
coats of paint on the front bumper of my jeep. I would like to know if
anyone can help identify the unit. Parts of some of the letters I cannot
make out but maybe there is enough to start from. Looking at the bumper:
1258 BG 3?? 158 HQ 31 One person said they thought the
numbers may have been put on incorrectly and should probably be
something like this. 3A-1 1258BG HQ 31
Some of the numbers appear on the rear but can't determine all of them.
Could it have been a national guard unit? The jeep is a 1952 M-38.
Thought someone may have seen these numbers while bouncing around in the
service or have a publication listing unit numbers.
