If the deuce you are considering hasn't been used as a planter or scrap
pile ornament for years, you might be able to tow it. If you do you might
consider going out and reconning the truck before hand.
If it hasn't moved in over a year you should pull the wheels and check the
bearings, they are run in grease by the way. Be sure the brakes are free.
On an old unknown truck you should drop the driveshafts so that all those
expensive gears don't decide to self destruct before you get a chance to do
a detailed inspection.
Trailering is the best way to bring unknowns home. I had a lowboy set up to
get the last 5 ton I bought only to have him fall through at the last
moment. Ended up loading my recovery tools and towbar, driving my pickup
out 300 miles, getting the truck running and driving it home. Had my
mastercard and friends along the way where I could store the damn thing if
something went wrong. I just plain got lucky I guess.
These things are an adventure any way you go.
