[MV] More gradability

All-knowing, all-powerful keepers of the list,

Thanks to all for the gradability insight. It seems there was a
combination of testing, formulating and guessing going on by the Army at
one time or another.

A follow up question, and perhaps to clarify some confusion concerning the
difference between "percent of grade" and "angle of grade".

Question: Is it possible for a vehicle to climb an angle greater than 45
degrees?

45 degrees being a 100 percent slope.

Would a vehicle be apt to "fall off" a hill at an angle of greater than 45
degrees, that is, would gravity be pushing the vehicle off the hill more
than it would be pushing down on the vehicle to provide traction?

I defer to the Einsteins out there (John S. are you listening?)

I see Hummer literature which claims the Hummer will climb a 60 degree
hill. Is that possible or are the Hummer folks confusing percent with
degree.

Is there any military vehicle other than the M29 Weasel that has been able
to climb the full 100 percent (45 degree) slope?

One last note on gradability as gathered from folks on the list. It
appears that the Army now takes it's vehicles to the 60 percent grade at
the proving ground, loads to rated capacity, and if they make it to the top
they are forever more listed as "gradability 60 %". 60 percent seems to
have become the standard.
