Hi List,
The early consensus on this seems to be vapor lock and insulating the fuel
line helps in many cases. Here at Sikorsky the helo fuel lines passing near a
heat source are wrapped in "Firesleeve" which looks like "rubber" hose (flat
red color) with white woven/braided fiberglass insulation inside. Could be a
solution that looks a little better than exhaust wrap and it HAS to work
because the heat source in this case is turbine engines (GE T700's usually).
It also stands up well to oils, corrosives, weather etc. naturally becasue of
the operating environment. You could get a piece (speed shop or another
"Aeroquip" dealer - it's a commercial product), cut to length, slip over the
line and reinstall. It doesn't do really well on sharp bends so you might
need to slit it for some areas and ty-wrap or tape. It does have NSN numbers
(DRMS auction?) and comes in a variety of diameters. Mil spec part for a
military vehicle problem (& '33 Plymouths if applicable). If you have trouble
finding this locally I can get it through my local speed shop and mail it if
anyone wants to try this (we use it on the race car).

Just another thought,
