Howdy folks. I have the opportunity to buy a WW II era military truck. It
is a Chevrolet, 6x6, and I'm told it is a 1 1/4 ton. It has no cargo bed,
and is not running, but everything appears to be there and in good
condition. Does anyone know the designation of this truck given the sparse
information. Are parts possible to come by for these chevys? Do you know
of any weaknesses I should look for witht these (weak transmissions etc.)?
What are fair prices for non-running examples in generally good condition ?
I have always been a military Dodge nut, so Chevrolets are new to me. It
appears to have a 216 six. For you purists, don't read the following : I
intend to put a 230 or 235 (or even a 292 if I can figure out if it fits)
in so I can have an engine with a pressure oil system for better
dependability. Also fitting an o.d. unit would be a benifit so I don't get
rear ended on the freeway. Too much desecration for this fine machine?
Thanks, Reade Obern, Pasco Washington.
