[MV] Back from Fort Knox/changes

I am just back from my Annual training at Fort Knox. A couple of
observations I noticed there that might be of note to people.

The entire WWII wooden barracks section on the east end of post--near
victory field--is being torn down. The Spartan PX and Barber Shop (the
one in Stripes) moved on Tuesday into new quarters. There should only
remain a few sporatic buildings here and there of WWII vintage. The
WWII motor pool buildings by the LST building remain and will probably
stay for a while since they are being used to train by 1/81st I think.

The Patton Museum had moved a few things around. They had a Stug
IIIthat was pulled from a lake in Latvia on display unrestored. A few
of their old favorites were gone, and some new vehicles were on display.

Remember the AMT John Deere Gator discussion about a month ago. They
still use them on ranges--I saw one on Morgan/Dripping Springs, and two
on Ditto Hill (Ditto 1 and 2). My 1SG's son is a pac clerk in one of
the Ranger battalions, and he said they use Gators and have for a while.
One of my older troops said they've used similar vehicles on those
ranges for years--15 years plus.

There is a DUCK on Dixie Highway in Muldraugh, KY. It is painted white
and ahs been sitting there for a couple of years. I don;t think it has
moved.I didn;t get to investigate it though.

A surplus store on Dixie Highway has three MV's for sale. Two
M-38a1's--one is pretty nicely restored and he wants $9995. The other
wasn;t as nice and had no price. The other MV is a M-37 type
ambulance--restored from what I saw of it--he wanted $6050 if my memory
is correct.

Overall it was a good trip for my company, with us receiving a outstandi
ng evaluation. We qualified 90% of the privates on the M-16A2, and
survived a lightening storm with no flash to bang time (Lightning on top
of us in other words).

That's it--I know a lot of people on the list were "raised" at Knox so I
thought people might be interested. TAS
