Lets face it, if the thing has been full of light penetrating oil for a long
time and is still unstickable by hand, then clutch starting it is just going
to destroy something. Probably time to start pulling the engine and dropping
the pan and taking the head off and taking the crankshaft out and individually
freeing up the pistons by thumping on them with a hammer and a piece of wood.
If every little thing on that engine is a little locked up, you can almost
forget unlocking it, but if you just have to do it the way you are trying to
do it, take out the oilpump (this made a difference in a motor I was unlocking
once) and pull the distributor and starter, take the valve adjustment covers
off and unstick the valves one at a time. by the way, you can destroy the
starter by trying to start the stuck engine.
when the guy before me tried to unstick his M-37 by clutching it, he got an
instant 2 piece axleshaft and he burned out the starter, too. I got what was
left cheap, and rebuilt the stuck engine after trying a lot of what you
mentioned. By the way, I have had the "fill it full of kerosene and wait two
weeks" trick work. I love raising the dead more than anything. I had a 66
B1 that had set outside in coastal South Carolina for 5 to 7 years before I
started on it. The day the engine came unstuck and ran for me was a THRILL.
I drove that truck for three years before it spun a rod bearing and is now on
the list for rebuild. It just sounds to me like you are trying too hard and
may break something. Either way, good luck!! My next experiment is a 42 WC
that hasn't run in something like 13 years, at least.
