Re: [MV] Heli Coil

I have installed a heli coil into a head without removing the
head. This is the procedure that I used.
Get the piston on the cylinder that your going to work on a down
on it's intake stroke so that the intake valve is open. While
drilling I then used both ports on my shop vac. I used the
output port to keep positive pressure in the cylinder. When I
drilled I had an assistant hold the vacuum cleaner nozzle along
side the drill. The head was cast iron so the swarf comes off
like dust. I then tapped and installed the heli coil while
keeping the cylinder pressurized with the vacuum. I figured I
keep a got a lot of the swarf out and what I missed would
probably be vaporized.
The vehicle ran fine for many years until I finally sold it.
Good Luck,
Buzz

an upwards manner (no jokes please) plus cover your (low speed)
drill and tap with grease to trap as much swarf as possible. =20
