List,

I have a question. I have a 1953 XM211 that's 90+% complete now. There's
just a few more items to do before it's motorpool class ready. I've had it
since 1992 and except for the continuous maintenance on the original engine
and transmission, it runs great. However, I have always thought that the
original 302 gas engine is under powered for such a large truck by today's
standards. In the near future, I may have the opportunity to get my hands on
an International 9.0L V8 diesel and 5 speed transmission. This would
certainly give the vehicle way more power than needed. I really don't need
the power as I trailer it to most events. The only other time I drive it on
the road is during club convoys and trail rides. I also like the fact that
it's completely original, historical accurate, and almost the way it was
when delivered from the factory. I'm just curious as to what the list might
have to say about such an engine swap? And if such a swap took place, would
there be any change to the designation, such as XM211A1? There's a company
called Napco International that has a link on the MVPA website that sells
diesel repower kits for M211's. This kit includes an engine, transmission,
transfer, wiring harnesses and every other part needed to complete the job.
Right now there are no plans to do the swap but was again I thought I'd poll
the list.

Thanks for your time

Ken
