An open letter to MVPA
No offense guys, but you took up a lot of space to say not very much. How can
us non-member MV types like myself (three M-37s, one WC-62, an MB project) who
usually don't have time to go to conventions make any decisions with a page
like that? Show us the daily schedule for the whole convention. Tell us how
much to join on the spot so we can come during the week instead of on the
weekend? Make the whole thing open to everybody. I mean really, if I can't
come during the week unless I'm a member, then you must not need members very
badly. Your best bet is to open the doors all week so that everybody gets a
chance to come and explore. Charge a cover charge each day, sell whole week
discount tickets, be a little original, but the "only us members" mentality
that sounds forth from your website is a little stuffy to those of us who
haven't joined either because there wasn't a club around us, or because we
want to see if this is an organization we want to be a part of first. And if
it's a members only Rally, then don't advertise, just put it in the members
calendar. Based on some of the hostile advertising directed at you guys by
some former members, I am skeptical anyway, and after seeing your website in
all it's glory, I'm even more skeptical. I can keep my green machines rolling
using MV Magazine (a damn fine publication) like I always have, and if your
national convention is closed to the general public three days out of four,
then I am wondering if that isn't a better investment. The Association should
be people friendly if it wants popular support. Lord knows we need popular
support if we want people to remember. And we do. Especially here in the
US.

- who can't come in until Saturday :o)
