Raphael,
I'm assuming that the V-8 distributor is on the vehicle & working properly.
If it is, remove it, leaving the caps & plug wires on the engine. Next, scribe
a line accross the mounting surface of the distributor.(you will be separating
the inner & outter housings). remove the advance lock plate from the side the
distributor(one screw) & the vacuum advance brake piston/spring assy. push or
pry the points mounting plate assy out of the main housing, replace the
points. Make sure to lube the cam& advance assy.(make sure everything works
freely) reassemble & set point gap(make sure you line up scribe mark) The
timing should be relatively close, if done properly. The advance piston
adjusting screw (in center of the cap) sets spring tension. Once the
distributor is back on & running, drive the vehicle (warm engine) & back
out(?) the screw until you get spark knock & then turn it back in until the
spark knock is gone.( this all from memory)
We also have the stroboscope for setting up this distributor. Just setting
the timing would be $20.00 U.S. + shipping. But as you can see, there's more
to it than that. We also stock parts for that unit. And have set up a number
of them ( 4 cylinder,V-8 & V-12)
We'd be glad to help you,
Darryl Bauman Jr
