Good question--I know of a very small Air Force station in New Hampshire
that used to be a gunnery and bombing range several decades ago. There are
a few M8s or M20s in the woods there as well as a WWII era light or medium
tank (I can't remember which model--maybe an M-3 or M-4). Presumably used
as targets, though I don't recall seeing any "non-factory" holes in them. It
was always interesting walking through the woods at this place--You never
knew what you'd come across. Just watch out for the occasional 45-year-old
unexploded ordnance.
