[MV] Split rims

My two cents worth on split rims. I hate to tell you my age, but as a
teenager back in the 60's I worked for a tire service and have changed more
than my share of these without a cage. I have seen it done using three
large log chains wrapped through the rim around the tire so if the snap
ring tried to jump off if would be caught by the chain. Also, I have
changed a goodly number using an arm of the service bay hoist as a cage. I
recall one flat in NV where I couldn't find a station to fix a flat and
finally located a station where I told the teenage attendent I would write
a release of liability and pay him $15.00 to use their tire tools and fixed
the flat myself. Due caution is in order, but it can be done. I don't
think too many WWII GI's had a tire service cage and changed a lot of tires
in the field. Should be a TM somepalce on it and it would be interesting
how they did it.
