I was 1SG of a Maintenance Company. We always parked a deuce on top of any
split rim being aired up. The wheel of the deuce would be placed in such a
way as to be on the ring near the valve stem. If it blew, it would not
remove my soldiers hand. We did have 2 blow that that I can remember. We
also used chains at times. In the service areas we had the big cages. What a
mess.. The two that I remember blowing did not injure anyone. The deuce has
enough weight to do its job well.. Both were in extremely cold weather.
Rings were pried off with a special bar with hooked ends. ( I have several
yet) Once the ring started, several soldiers would use the tanker bars like
those old railroad Gandy Dancers and pop off the ring in seconds. Gene
