The powers-that-be would love to reduce all of these items into easily
packaged categories that they can spit out in sound bites on the TV to make
the public go their way on legislation and enforcement. The trouble with
this is that the real guys who buy and sell this stuff do walk in some of
the same circles we walk in, and look just like us. We are going to be
associated with them, especially if we band ourselves into a group with
somewhat tempered, yet still politically incorrect views- like the NRA.
The real big dealers like (Wilson?) the guy who sold stuff to Iran and Iraq
when we banned sales are the culprits, and irresponsible actions, like not
making sure your .5 M investment is demilled properly give the demagogues
ammo to go after us peacnik Carryall, jeep, and GTB owners. But the public
doesn't hear this on the six oclock news. We have to be really careful not
to publicize ourselves as rogues- just people with unique and special
interests.

The point- get out in your community and put a positive spin on this hobby.
Show people that you are trying to "Save Private Ryan", not protect
yourselves from "the jackbooted thugs and tactics of the Federal
Government." Show up at Christmas Toy Drives, hospitals, and start making
public events OTHER than military vehicle rallies and car shows. Wade
through the dumb "jeep in a crate for $50" questions, give some kids and
families rides, and hopefully one of them is the next President of the US,
Prime Minister, or resident dictator with a soft spot for MV's.
