Joe,
Several local tire shops' staff use a special hammer that has a flat
blade, kind of like the tool in the m-v pioneer kit, to break the tire
loose from the wheel. I've watched them stand on a tire and place
exacting hammer strikes between the ring and the tire, moving around
the ring a little at a time. I use a "slapper". It's a heavy weight that
slides on a shaft. The shaft has a 2" wide blade that gets paced
between the ring and the tire. Works kind of like a pile driver. Big
advantage is no missed strikes that cause damage to things. After
breaking the tire loose you can pry the ring off; using the correct
tire irons here helps. Then you flop the tire over and break the other
side loose and remove the wheel. Sometimes you might have to
place a block under the wheel, clear of the tire, so you can drive
the tire off. Plenty of lube helps. I do most of my tire work myself.
Read the thread on inflating these things!
