[MV] U. S. Mail jeeps

Hi List:

Forgive the personal interjection, but I have photos of my Grandfather
with his "mail" jeep - a 1943 MB he bought surplus in 1945, to use as a
rural mail carrier. He used this jeep, with a homemade top and a
special homemade tool to reach across the vehicle, hook the mailbox door
open, and release the mail inside the box...

He stuck with that until he got the CJ-2 to replace it. My dad said he
was glad when Warn hubs came along, because it was his job to change the
caps on the hubs when the mud got too deep for two-wheel drive.

By the way, in Seattle, the surplus RHD mail jeeps are now the vehicle
of choice for Ice Cream vendors...
