I spent many a day on those gun trucks while I was in the Nam... They
came in about as many varieties as there were units that used them...
I ran with the 442th and 360th and another unit I can't remember right
now.

We used everything from steel plates welded together with two by sixes
on the inside to prevent ricochets...The bed of the box was lined with
sandbags as was the floor of the cab...

Other variants included just a box of 2x6's with sand bags inside of
the box with another layer of 2x6's...Same floor treatment....

another variant was created by mounting the hull from an M-113 in the
box of the truck...instant hard truck..

They were all usually armed with one or two fiftys and a couple of
m-60's...

"Nose Art" was also a very important part of the creation of one these
beasts... very creative and not always civil...lol
