Hi All-
Does anyone know where to get a good used or rebuildable 12 volt starter
for a 1945-1953 Willys M38A Jeep? Note that this is NOT the M38A-1.
This is for the flathead engine and has 2 bolts holding the starter on
the passenger side. I think that the civilian CJ-2/3/4/5 will fit. I
am told that Autolite made some and there were other manufacturers
too. This starter has no nose casting around the bendix drive and the
end of the starter shaft is supported in the bell housing. I am on a
tight budget and can't afford a $200 rebuilt starter. Can anyone help
with something that would work for a fair price? As long as the
windings aren't burn't up I can replace the brushes, bushings and bendix
drive. I am located in North East Maryland. Can anyone suggest a
source? Are armatures and field windings available to rebuild my
smoked starter?
Thanks,
Dave Reed
