Gentlemen,
May I suggest a simple initial course of action? Call your Congressmen and
Senators and explain to the assistant to the assistant that answers your call
by asking them first to please find out for you why military equipment of a
non-destructive nature that is very much in demand and USEFUL to the
purchasers of such is being systematically taken out of reach of the
taxpayers. Politely and carefully explain that vehicles that are legal to own
and drive are being damaged to the point of uselessness when there is a market
for said equipment, the proceeds of which will go right back into the
Governments' coffers. Heresay and "I heard" and "I guess" doesn't cut it. I
personally have no facts other than the M151 saga, and I expect (see, I am
guessing too and wasting your time) that the mutilation was to prevent the
Govt from being accused of negligence for allowing dangerous vehicles on the
road. Don't assume it's a conspiracy to take away our guns and flouridate our
whiskey, perhaps the govt recognises that society as a whole today is lazy and
ignorant and looks for organizations to blame for their misfortune and
litigate against, and wishes to reduce it's own perceived liability as much as
possible. If I restore a demilled thing and later get hurt in it, they can't
be blamed (because of the amount of work I had to do to restore it). "Big
brother" is protecting us and itself in one blow ( or crunch, if you will).
Do your best to actually speak to the august personage himself and be eloquent
and intelligent. He probably is. Seek feedback from them, heck ask them what
you can do to change the policy. That's what they do for a living, more or
less. Also, check your spelling and punctuation scrupulously before you write
anyone. Poor grammar will kill you more than half the time. After we all
seperately get information, we can report back to the list and corporately
plan actions that will have a better chance of positive results. Our warcry
can be "Save the baby MVs" or something like that. Michael Sommer (Mike
in VA)
