[MV] Dot5 fluid (silicone)

The civilian dot 5 silicone fluid I just bought over the counter says "
Compatible with all dot3 and dot4 fluids " on the can. I thoroughly flushed
my system anyhow, and so far no problems. I disagree with the folks who
prefer the dot 3 hygroscopic fluid - I always get continued corrosion problems
on older vehicles. Besides, why did the noble US military switch to silicone,
anyhow? Wasn't it to combat the corrosion problems inherent in vehicles that
sit a lot? Anybody know ?? Mike in VA
