Yes I have seen several photos of the SAS and their jeeps with the
vickers K guns mounted. I think some even had two or more guns mounted
on one jeep. According to the book I was reading it stated that they
took them from aircraft. Most have been a sight to see these guys come
out of the sand dunes at night attacking some supply trucks behind the
line with twin vickers blazing. According to several of you it appears
that there was some use of the water cooled vickers MG also if not buy
the SAS then possibly by others as well. I know the w.c. Browning 30 cal
was mounted on jeeps and others so it stands to reason that the vickers
would be used also. But I imagine that their use would have been more
trouble than the air cooled guns.
I was just thinking about mounting one on my jeep for something a little
different and wanted to make sure that, although not common, had been
done during the war.
One thing for sure all of our boys and women were ingenious when it came
to improvising.
