The fit might not be exactly the same, but my 1.5 ton US Chevrolet K 43
had a GMC 270 DUKW engine in it, mated to the original gearbox and
transfer. No idea how this was achieved, but there were no obvious
modifications to the truck at all and the GMC sign on top of the rocker
cover did no harm.

The 270 is a great engine, and and the truck used to perform very well, so
well, in fact that they used to send me ahead of any convoys 'cause the
others couldn't keep up, it would run clean off the standard issue speedo.

The added advantage of being a contemporary engine that could have been
army fitted might make it the way to go, but maybe the US chev engine
compartment is a bit bigger than the C15 one. I do have a friend with a
28HP Bedford petrol engine, but in your part of the world that is probably
not an option. Only thing I remember is that the starter was on the
other side and the carb linkage was turned 90o.
