The early Chevy motors with hydraulic lifters were made for cars with the
Powerglide auto tranny. The mech lifters were for manual trannys, don't ask me
why...

Check the flywheel situation. The flywheel you have may not fit the newer motor
as the auto tranny/hydraulic lifter motor, if it has a 'flywheel' will not
mount a clutch but a torque converter.
