Bob,

Question for you. What kinda coil are you using? Standard Trak Auto type
coil? Making the assumption you have converted from 24V to 12V, you may have
a problem with trying to use an coil that is externally ballasted versus one
that is internally ballasted. Swapped coils on a 12V Land Rover and had
problems where it would run like a champ and then die. Check of the points
indicated they were not opening (or barely opening). Reset points, and it
would run again for a while and die. Closer examination found the heat
generated by the hotter sparking coil was causing the plastic rub block rubs
on the lobes opening and closing the points to melt effectively closing the
point gap. Went back to an internally ballasted coil and the problem went
away. You can also get a ballast resistor that hooks to the output side of
the coil along with the lead to the distributor.
