Just received this message. Looks like we need to get the word out on this
really fast. This could be disasterous for BIG military trucks that are now
registered as antiques. Jeeps would only go up a little - I just can't
imagine what it would cost to register a deuce! If you already have
something about this in the works, so much the better.

Keith........Please feel free to use any part of the following article. It may
be of some use in whatever challenge to the proposed NH legislation you may
be considering.

It is from the British Government's Treasury Department (not well-known for
generosity towards British motorists). The document is dated November 1998 and
at Section 4.11 it states:-

"Historic Vehicles
Vehicles made before 1 January 1973 are exempt from VED (Vehicle Excise Duty)
(ie annual road tax) as part of the national industrial heritage. The 300,000
(Yes, 300K) vehicles benefitting from this exemption merit separate
consideration. While, in principle, the exemption of old vehicles from Vehicle
Excise Duty is not strictly compatible with an environmentally-based VED
system, it is accepted that many vehicles in this "historic" tax class are
well maintained, cover a low annual mileage, and they consequentially do not
make a significant difference to overall pollution levels. It is proposed,
therefore, to maintain the current exemption."

(The words in italics are my additions).

If our Government is prepared to waive the duty on 300,000 vehicles (and VED
for a jeep would otherwise be in the region of 190 UK Pounds), then your NH
legislature should be persuaded not to increase its duty (or better still,
reduce it). Additionally, you may like to know that the 25-year-exemption also
applies across most of Europe, too. Even grasping, squandering, legislation-
mad "New World Order" governments like we have across Europe, recognise that
old vehicles, including military ones, are part of our national and industrial
heritage.

Make sure your NH Reps are aware of this, too.

Kind regards........

Ken
