I've heard from several veterans of Desert Storm that the HMMMV's were
equipped with a setup that allowed the wheels to be removed by spinning
off one nut in the center of the wheel, like the older sports cars. But
they said they weren't a big success because they all spun off the same
way, the ones on the drivers side came off while driving.

Don't know how many or any other details, and yes its hearsay.
