Go to your large hardware store & see if they sell a product that is a
CITRUS based solvent, for removing glue ie bumper stickers. It actually
smells of oranges, but is a clear liquid.

All you do is peel a bit of the glossy backing paper off any sort of sticker
till you get to the paper adhesive section. Add a few drop of this solvent
and then in minutes all you have is a goo-ey mess. Keep peeling the glossy
stuff off until you have got most of the paper softened with the solvent.

It may take a little while doing it, but it sure does save the paintwork. It
smells good too.

If we have it in Australia, you must have it in the USA.
