This would not be the first time the DOD bought a lemon. Remember the
Sergeant York? Remember the Tiger Shark? Not every vehicle which enters
the Army inventory becomes a legend. The whole FMTV fleet has had problems
(from people I have talked to on the testing side) which have certainly
brought it's present production model into question.

And I have never seen the Pentagon jump up to say it was wrong about
anything. And manufacturers with investors relying on their public image to
keep their stock climbing aren't hot to admit design problems. That quoted
article earlier sounded much more like a direct quote from press release
than good investigative journalism. Rebuilding government vehicles and
building vehicles with production bugs worked out is very different from
tooling up to build a new vehicle. I think it is entirely probable for SSSS
to be encountering some of the problems alluded to by other posts.
