You fellas keep in mind Uncle Sam did "turn these up", they called them LDS
series engines when they did, and put them in 5 tons and M656's. 200hp.
If I remember, used a different turbo and has different injector pump
settings.(immaterial to the discussion, but also different bellhousing) Over
the years they've had some problems, so now are converting the spares of
these engines to fit into deuces, and tagging them "derated, only for use
in...."
My two cents, if the deuce and ten forward gears can't get you and the cargo
there, get a bigger truck, maybe a 5 ton with a Cummins. Want to go fast,
forget the OD and see Freightliner or Peterbilt.
I've changed engines in a deuce, a lot more work than I call fun, I'll take
it easy and the truck and engine will outlive me.
