I am not advocating disconnecting the low air alarms, I am stating that have
seen many surplus trucks that have them disconnected. By the way, most of
them were built without a visual alarm, but I have seen some five tons that
have had a MWO applied to add a red light in the center of the instrument
cluster which is tied to the low air alarm.
Question: Since there is not such a visual indicator on thousands of trucks
is this because:
A) They predate this rule.
B) It is related to GVW, hence I haven't seen a deuce so modified.
C) M35 and M54 series trucks really don't have air brakes, they have air over
hydraulic (really just air assisted rather than vacuum like your car POWER
BRAKES). M123 series trucks have straight air brakes without spring safety,
and I'm not sure whether or not it has visual indicator. When we start it
there is enough other things going on I don't notice, and it is loud enough
you can't hear much anyhow!
D) None of the above. If not any of these reasons, why?

I don't intend this to sound like I disagree, I don't, I'm just curious.

Thanks,
David Doyle
