[MV] NATO vs. US jerry cans

Having owned and used both types of cans on many expeditions in South
America, I'm going to have to support the NATO (German) design as
superior. Newer USMC cans are pretty decent (although they tend to get
banged up faster and the paint rubs off), but they start leaking after a
few months and then there is no stopping them. NATO-style cans hold up
to serious abuse MUCH better, and almost never leak. Among the serious
expedition crowd in my native Venezuela, the used NATO-style cans
outsell new USMC and Blitz cans 3 to 1, despite being more expensive.

I bought 7 of the NATO-style cans recently from Sportsman's Guide for $7
each (on sale), ex-Belgian military stock. They are used in EXCELLENT
condition (5 look brand new, two were slightly scuffed), painted dark
grey and marked as "DIESEL" on the switchable ID plates. Overall I was
very pleased with them, and at $50 for all 7 cans, it worked out really
well.

HTH!
