But the policy was not inforced till a few months ago. I know that 3 years
ago we brought in 3 40 mm borfors(?) guns and several duce and a half trucks
from Norway to Memphis. Also Memphis Equipment brings them in.

I pretty much agree with this statement, but I would alter it juuuust a
bit. Considering that it looks like the original State Department
decision ("on behalf of us") was instituted under the Reagan
Administration. See posting today from John Hutterer. So swap the word
"Clinton" for "Reagan" (or better yet, just "Government") to make this a
bit more accurate...

>Clinton has banned import of x American lend lease vehicles and parts. He
>meant to say "Should NOT be allowed to own". The sinking shows Clinton was
>correct and if others had taken his courageous stand years there would be
13
>more people alive to day. HI I'M FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND I'M HERE TO HELP
>YOU :)

People, I'm sure very few of us like Clinton, but to try and demonize him
for what is most likely a very typical idiotic bureaucratic decision, by
our government for our own protection, isn't helpful. Our government is
better than most, but it consistently screws up and is not held
accountable far too often. This has always been the case, no matter who
was in control of the Presidency, and always will be going forward.

By personalizing this as a Clinton thing we simply get distracted from
the truth of the matter; this country is large, its bureaucracy huge, and
its tendency towards knee-jerk reactions well documented throughout
history. It would be good to keep this in mind when Clinton is out of
office because NOTHING concerning MVs is likely to get any better, no
matter which half of the same party (Rep/Dem) takes control of the
bureaucratic helm.

Hell, if this decision did come from the Reagan Administration, as it
seems to have, it was done under the most wild Defense spending admin in
peace time ever in our country's history. So what can we expect from
other administrations? Unfortunately, very little more in the way of
100% sanity and protection of everybody's interests. :-(

Personally, from an accountability standpoint, I would rather have a liar
as President than a liar that physically can't remember if he woke up on
any particular day...

My 3.5cents

Steve
