The engines without oil filters generally use non-detergent oil. These
oils do not keep impurities in suspension to be picked up by the oil
filter like detergent oils do, thus more frequent oil changes, but 1000-
1500 miles is kind of too soon between changes under normal driving
conditions. Synthetic oils are high detergent and you run a risk of
loosening up years of sludge and residue in the engine and oil pan
if you use it or any other high detergent oil.
