M151(Horizontal slats) "replaced" M38A1(Vertical slats).
Humvee supposed to be all things to all people. Replacing M151, as well as
the somewhat limited tactical role of the M880, which had in turn replaced
the somewhat tactical M715, which had supersceded (I understand for purely
economic reasons) the M37 tactical truck.
It strikes me as odd that if one looks at the original "concept" specs for
what became the Jeep, the Humvee is about as far removed from that as you can
get.
