I have just tried this on my speedo rim. In short, nothing happened.
In the end, I cleaned it up and went for very carefully applied (fine
artists brush) dichloromethane, follwed by a final clean-up on the wire
wheel, taking care not to damage the lens. An excellent result all round.
A lengthy process, but time well invested. methinks.
