Hello list,

Yesterday, I received a call from MVPA President Lee Holland who
is on a work assignment in Hawaii. Unfortunately, my dh was out
when he called to discuss John's previous posting to this list.
Among other things, he said, the Board was going to draft and send
a letter to Jim Gilmore via registered mail, explaining the reason of
his nomination rejection for the MVPA Board elections.

Mr. Holland also told me that this business was between Jim Gilmore
and the MVPA office, that this information shouldn't be made public.
Upon further consideration I realized that at the minimum, Mr.
Gilmore should have been informed of the reason(s) up front. Also,
if the reason(s) are inadequate it would affect me as an MVPA
member because I could not vote for rejected candidates that I may
be inclined to vote for.

After I spoke to John regarding my phone conversation with Mr.
Holland, he was extremely disappointed that he wasn't here to take
the call, he would have liked to discuss this situation with Mr. Holland.

John was wondering why it took this long to explain to Mr. Gilmore
why his nomination was rejected. He is sure Mr. Gilmore is
anxiously awaiting this statement. But it is odd that this information
was not forthcoming until well after the process of the election was
set into motion.

John only sees two possible reasons that the explanation is so late in
arriving 1.) There is no reason, whoever makes these decisions just
doesn't like Mr. Gilmore because he spoiled the cozy Italian voting
situation of the previous elections; or 2.) Their reason is the vague
notion that Mr. Gilmore may not have the proper business pedigree,
ie. corporate leader or successful businessman qualifications that
the board might be looking for. But that sort of decision should be
made by the voting membership as to the diversity of the board
which will represent the broad based interests of our Organization.
Neither reason seems defensible. Perhaps there is another reason
we have not thought of. However, one must wonder, why was Mr.
Gilmore qualified to run last time, but not this time?

We both continue to look forward to satisfactory answers to these
unusual circumstances.
